'Pocket Rocketman' delivers on his promised gold and 'wheelie'

NILAI: World keirin champion Azizulhasni Awang delivered his promise to treat Malaysian fans to his trademark wheelie after winning his pet event at the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games (today)

Azizulhasni, who raced in his rainbow jersey, had no difficulty romping to the keirin gold at the National Velodrome in Nilai tonight, completing Malaysia's mission to win 13 gold in cycling, for both road and track disciplines, at KL2017.

"I am really happy that we have achieved our goal of winning 13 gold. It feels great to compete in front of our home crowd," said Azizulhasni.

"What is important is that we have achieved our target without any injuries. You can consider the 13 gold a return on investment."

Azizulhasni had clinched the nation's 111th gold at KL2017 when he won the individual sprint yesterday.

Earlier tonight, Fatehah Mustapa clinched her fourth gold of the games by winning the women's keirin while Eiman Firdaus Mohd Zamri, Irwandie Lakasek, Mohamad Nur Aiman Mohd Zariff and Muhamad Afiq Huznie Othman won the men's team pursuit.
