Amarjit appointed as first Asean Cycling Federation secretary-general

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill has been appointed as the Asean Cycling Federation's (ACF) first secretary-general.

Amarjit, who is also Malaysia National Cycling Federation (MNCF) vice president, was unanimously selected for the role at the ACF congress in Siem Reap, Cambodia, today.

Norazman Abu Samah, also MNCF vice president, was also appointed as a member of the ACF management committee for the 2023-2027 term.

The Asean body, formerly known as the Asean Cycling Association, was rebranded as ACF during the congress. In addition to it's name, changes were also made to the constitution and logo.

Amarjit said he was honoured to be appointed as secretary-general.

"There are plenty of great (leadership) personalities from Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia, so I am grateful to be selected," said Amarjit, in a statement released today.

"I will carry out my role as best as possible as we look to transform the sport of cycling in the region."

The ACF elections held earlier saw General Decha Hemkasri (Thailand) elected as the president.

Datuk Abu Samah Wahab, who had helmed ACA since its formation in 2001, decided to relinquish his position to make way for Decha.

Abu Samah remains MNCF president.
