Southern Tigers teach UiTM a football lesson

KUALA LUMPUR: University team, UiTM FC, were taught a lesson in football by Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) yesterday.

The Southern Tigers were of a different class altogether, easily registering a 4-0 win at Shah Alam.

JDT made it three wins out of three league matches and for UiTM, it's three losses in three matches.

However, things didn't really start well for JDT. Safawi Rasid was stretched off in the ninth minute, feeling the aftereffects of a heavy tackle by a UiTM player in the third minute.

Safawi's replacement, Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi, 19, duly used the opportunity to prove himself, scoring his first goal of the season in the 11th minute. He soloed past three defenders to give JDT a 1-0 lead.

Argentine Gonzalo Cabrera doubled JDT's score in the 15th minute, beating UiTM goalkeeper, Dominik Picak.

UiTM's best attempt came in the 72nd minute but Fahmi Sabri's shot went wide.

JDT's last signing before the March 5 kickoff, Brazilian Bergson, scored his first league goal in the 81st minute after beating two defenders.

The Super League champions made it 4-0 in stoppage time through Syamer Kutty Abba.

In other matches, PJ City collected their first three points of the season, beating Sabah 1-0 at Stadium Likas with the winner coming from Darren Lok.

At the KLFA Stadium, the Klang Valley Derby saw no winners as KL City held Selangor 1-1.

The goals came late for both sides, the City Boys drawing first blood in the 80th minute through Dominique da Sylva before Safuwan Baharudin equalised for Selangor in the 90th minute.

Sri Pahang FC, who came into the game without coach Thomas Dooley who has been "rested", held Melaka United to a stalemate.
