Lowry gets two-year contract with JDT

KUALA LUMPUR: Australian centre-back Shane Lowry has been with Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) for only six months, but he has done enough to earn a two-year contract extension with the Super League champions.

The 32-year-old, who joined JDT in May on a free transfer from Qatar's Al Ahli, played in five of the Southern Tigers' six Champions League matches this season.

The former Aston Villa, Leeds United and Plymouth player also started in seven Super League games, and scoring the winner in JDT's 1-0 triumph against Terengganu last month.

He provided an assist in JDT's 2-1 win over KL City before they lifted the Super League title.

"It's an amazing feeling because it is not easy to win titles or cups. I've been playing for a long time around the world, so I know how hard it is," said Lowry after the signing ceremony today in Johor Baru.

"Winning is a habit, and it's a good habit to have. I'm glad to have come in, be part of this and hopefully do the same in the future."

JDT head coach Benjamin Mora said: "Lowry is a great player with good technique, tactical and good mindset. We wanted a left centre-back, and he is a great selection from the management."
