JDT beat Guangzhou to set up exciting Ulsan clash in ACL

KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) defeated China's Guangzhou 2-0 today to keep their last-16 hopes alive in the Asian Champions League (ACL).

Striker Bergson da Silva scored both goals for JDT, who now lead Group I with 10 points, ahead of South Korea's Ulsan Hyundai, who edged third-placed Kawasaki Frontale 3-2 at Larkin Stadium, on better head-to-head record.

Kawasaki are third with eight points.

JDT face a winner-takes-all clash with Ulsan on Saturday to secure an automatic last-16 spot.

Da Silva scored JDT's opening goal via a spot-kick in the 16th minute against Guangzhou at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri.

The striker then netted again from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

Only the group champions advance automatically to the round of 16 from the East Asia region together with the three best second-placed teams from the five groups.
