JDT march into Malaysia Cup final after sweeping aside Turtles

KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) reached their fifth consecutive Malaysia Cup final after a 2-1 win over Terengganu at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on Saturday.

Holding a commanding 4-0 lead from the first leg in Gong Badak on Jan 17, the defending champions completed a 6-1 aggregate victory in the semi-final return leg at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.

Heberty Fernandes opened the scoring for the Southern Tigers in the 32nd minute.

Terengganu responded with Ismaheel Akinade finding the equaliser in the 59th, but Brazilian Fernandes struck again in stoppage time (90+1).

JDT, seeking their third straight Malaysia Cup title, will await the winners of tomorrow's semi-final clash between Sri Pahang and Sabah in Temerloh.
