Genevieve posts T16 finish at Singapore Ladies Masters

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian golfer Genevieve Ling failed to mount a strong challenge in the final round and was forced to settle for a share of the 16th spot at the inaugural Singapore Ladies Masters today.

The 28-year-old was left to rue two costly double bogeys on the day it mattered most as she battled to a four-over 76.

She finished the 54-hole tournament, which is a China LPGA (CLPGA) Tour event, on an even-par 216.

After posting a solid 72 and 68 in the first two rounds, Genevieve went into the finale at the Laguna National Golf Resort Club in joint fifth position, just three shots off the lead.

Unfortunately, the three birdies she bagged for the day were barely enough to make up for the seven shots she conceded, which included double bogeys at the par-four ninth and par-five 11th holes.

But it was still a commendable result for Genevieve as the tied-16th finish was her best on the CLPGA Tour, bettering her previous best of tied-17th at the Orient Masters in 2019.

Genevieve will be looking to build on her encouraging recent form after finishing a career-best tied-10th at last week's 2023 Friends of TLPGA Open in New Taipei City.

Genevieve had led at the 36-hole mark in Taipei but could not take her chances in the final round.

The Singapore Ladies Masters, which is the first-ever tournament sanctioned by CLPGA in the city-state, yielded a befitting conclusion for the host, with amateur Shannon Tan emerging as the surprise winner.

Shannon closed with a superb 66 for a 10-under 206 total to win by one shot from China's Ji Yuai (67).

Malaysian players Aretha Pan and Lana Aswadi also competed in Singapore, but both failed to make the cut.
