(Hockey) From three to two divisions in JHL

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) competitions committee, in their last meeting, had decided to go with three divisions in the Junior Hockey League (JHL) this season.

However, due to lack of entries as many teams opted out — the committee decided to hold a two -division tournament.

Several committee members are baffled as it was decided in their meeting on June 10 last year that this season’s JHL would have three divisions.

"So who decided to revoke the earlier decision? We are baffled as the committee have not met since June 10," questioned a member of the committee who declined to be named.

Competitions committee manager Brian Fernandez said: "We could not hold a three-division tournament due to several factors.

“First, there were lack of entries and second, we needed to consider the scheduling as the JHL will have to take breaks for the National Under-16 and also the Youth Olympics as some players will be involved in them.”

Asked on when did the committee last meet, Brian said: “It was sometime last year.

"It was last year but I do not remember when it was actually held. The information is in my office and I can only check on Monday," said Brian.

The competitions committee is headed by George Koshy.
