Pandelela wins 10m platform bronze at world championships

KUALA LUMPUR: Diver Pandelela Rinong rose to the occasion to deliver a bronze medal in the women's 10m platform individual event at the World Championships in Budapest.

The 29-year-old was consistent from the start to finish as she tallied a total of 338.85 points over five dives in the final on Monday.

China's teenage duo - defending champion Chen Ruxi and Olympic gold medallist Quan Hongchan finished with gold and silver, as expected, with scores of 417.25 and 416.95 respectively.

It was, however, still a very strong showing from Pandelela who showed that she still has what it takes to deliver at the highest level.

It was certainly a redemption for the two-time Olympic medallist whose last major outing saw her finish 12th at the Tokyo Olympics.

Pandelela was fourth after the second dive but moved up a spot after the third dive as her rivals began to falter.

And she never looked back and kept her focus to secure a second individual world meet medal since her bronze effort at the 2015 edition in Kazan.

Meanwhile, in the men's 3m springboard individual event, both Chew Yiwei and Syafiq Puteh fared poorly as they failed to even reach the semi-finals.

Syafiq scored 327.35 to place 35th out of 55 divers while Yiwei posted 255.65 to finish 51st.
