KUALA LUMPUR: United States-based Shereen Samson Vallabouy was in smashing form at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Indoor Track and Field Championships in Mankota last weekend.
The Malaysian rewrote the NSIC women's 400m record and won the 4x400m relay last weekend.
Competing in Myers Field House in Minnesota, the Winona State University (WSU) undergraduate clocked 53.28s, shattering the NSIC record of 54.79s by more than a second and setting a new league mark on Saturday.
Brooklyn Schyvinck of Winona State clocked 56.21s to finish third in the 400m.
A day later, Shereen, Lainey Lipschultz, Alyssa Larson and Schyvinck clocked 3:49.17 to win the 4x400m relay.
Shereen's teammate Lindsay Cunningham won the 5,000m in 15:48.66, while Kaylee Beyer broke her own WSU mark by clocking 2:12.22s.
The 24-year-old Malaysian, Cunningham and Beyer all established Myers Field House facility records with their performances.
Fourteen athletes from WSU competed in the NCAA Division II event.
Winona earned 74 points in the two-day meet to finish third. Minnesota won the meet with 216.5 points, while Augustana was second with 95 points.
Shereen will next compete at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Virginia Beach on March 10 and 11.
Shereen, the daughter of former international runners Samson Vallabouy and Olympian Josephine Mary, has a personal best of 52.68s in the 400m, which she achieved in the US last May.
Josephine said the Northern Sun meet was moved from Friday to Saturday due to heavy snow.
"Despite the cold weather, Shereen ran well to break the NSIC meet record. It was a decent effort. You cannot expect her to clock fast times in every race.
"Overall, Shereen did well. I believe she will perform better in upcoming meets ahead of the Phnom Penh Sea Games from May 5-17," said Josephine.
