Sarawak silat exponents shine in SPISC

KUCHING: Several Sarawakian exponents reached the finals in their respective categories at the Sarawak Premier International Silat Championships (SPISC) here today.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof commended the Sarawakian exponents for their impressive performance on the fourth day of the competition at Kuching Indoor Stadium.

During his short visit to the venue today, Fadillah said the event would help popularise the sport and put Sarawak on the silat map.

"It will encourage youngsters to take up the sport. The state government has done a good job in organising the event. Sports is an important tool to unite people," said Fadillah.

The Sarawak contingent got off to a great start when Nor Azeman Pie'e advanced to the putra B junior final by overcoming Singapore's Ridzqi Mohd Fadzil 28–14.

In the senior B category, Sarawak's Nur Hazeerah Syafiqah Suffian defeated Singapore's Nur Izzah Johanis 43–27.

Sarawak's Josh Chua battled past Melaka's Muhammad Amirul Hakim Jaaffar 35-32 to reach the junior putra C final.

The senior women's E category saw Raveena Jeno advancing to the final by defeating Qurratu Aini Muhammad Asri of Pahang 39–24.

In the senior women's G category, Sharifah Nurhalimatun Wan Mohamad overcame Police's Olivia Chong 43–34. The tournament ends tomorrow.
