Yasshmita wins World Squash Player of the Month award

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's J. Yasshmita has been named World Squash Women's Player of the Month for July after winning two back-to-back tournaments in Australia.

The Negri Sembilan-born won the Shepparton International on July 9 and a week later the Victorian Open.

Yasshmita, 19, has improved her world 107th ranking at the beginning of the year to 89th.

Yasshmita, who has trained under John Tate in Birmingham since October 2021, said: "It's a pleasant surprise to read this news today (Sunday) that I'm the women's Squash Player of the Month.

"It will motivate me to work harder to hit the top 80 by the end of this year."

From October, Yasshmita will be based in Bristol under coaches John Welton and Hadrian Stiff.

She will feature in two PSA tournaments in August - the North Coast Open in Coffs Harbour from Aug 16-20 and Tuanku Muhriz Trophy in Seremban from Aug 23-27.
