HANGZHOU: The Malaysian squash team are a step away from another Asiad gold medal after Syafiq Kamal-Aifa Azman marched into the mixed doubles final today.
The Malaysians bounced back from a set down to beat India's Anahat Singh-Abhay Singh 8-11, 11-2, 11-9 in 38 minutes.
"There was a bit of pressure on us and we kept reminding each other to fight all out although we were trailing (6-9) in the third set," said Syafiq.
In the gold medal-match, the Malaysian duo will take on top seeds Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu-Dipika Pallikal Karthik. The Indians ousted Hong Kong's Lee Ka Yi-Wong Chi Him in the last four.
Syafiq said they are expecting a tough fight from the lower-ranked Indian pair in the final as the latter have no pressure.
"We are meeting the top seeds in the final. We will rest, discuss our strategy and focus on recovery to be in the best condition to give 100 per cent in the final," he added.
Meanwhile, Aifa said she and Syafiq hope to give Harinder-Deepika a torrid time in the final.
"We will give our everything and see what happens.
"We need to plan well to face them," she added.
So far, the Malaysian squash players have delivered one gold medal in the women's team event and one bronze in the men's team event.
