Yeoh relishes CNY potluck reunion dinner

KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh is looking forward to catching up with loved ones over a potluck reunion dinner for Chinese New Year.

Rather than eating out, Yeoh said it has become the norm for her family to hold a potluck dinner ahead of the big day.

Yeoh will be spending Chinese New Year in Subang Jaya, where she is from.

"It has become a trend to do a potluck dinner where the entire extended family, including in-laws, all bring one dish per family for everyone to enjoy together," said Yeoh yesterday (Jan 27).

"We feel that this is better than going out to eat because there is limited space (in restaurants), it is much more 'meriah' (lively) this way.

"I always look forward to meeting our extended family

during Chinese New Year, this is the highlight for me.

"Although we mostly live in the Klang Valley, it is quite hard for us too meet up during the rest of the year."

Yeoh's culinary skills have been well documented on social media through her limited series Dapur Hanayo (Hannah Yeoh's kitchen) that highlighted quick recipes for working mothers.

Yeoh, however, said she has little time to cook these days and will be banking on her mother, Tong Choon Lee, to deliver her end of the bargain for the potluck reunion dinner.

"I asked my mum to help me buy (items for the dinner) and I will pay her back, this will be my contribution," added Yeoh.

"I haven't cooked for a long time now, I really don't have time.

"I used to be known for my chicken curry and all the fast recipes but 'Dapur Hanayo' has long been closed since the end of the Movement Control Order."

Yeoh wished Malaysians Happy Chinese New year and urged the public to stay safe when driving back to their hometowns.
