SINGAPORE: Thirty-four people were injured in a collision involving two buses at a bus-stop along Jalan Jurong Kechil here on Friday.
The police said it was alerted to the accident at around 9am. The injured were sent to three hospitals – Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH), National University Hospital (NUH), as well as Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).
Of the 34 people who were taken to hospital, seven were warded, said senior vice-president of corporate communications at SBS Transit Tammy Tan.
She added that 24 people received outpatient treatment, while three others are still waiting to complete their medical assessments.
"We will continue to monitor their progress and be on hand to help as much as we can. We are deeply apologetic for the distress and inconvenience caused," said Tan.
Pictures from social media suggested that SBS Transit bus service 157 had smashed into the back of SMRT bus service 970 at the bus stop, which is just outside the German European School. The impact shattered the windscreen of bus service 157.

SMRT said the bus captain for bus service 970, as well as several passengers, were taken to hospital. Both SMRT and SBS Transit apologised for the accident and said they were assisting with the authorities' investigations.
Sudhakar Ebven, who was on service 157 with his wife, said the bus was crowded at the time of the accident. "We were talking to each other so we didn't notice (we were going to crash)," he told TODAY.
He was not injured, but his wife fractured her fingers and her palm. The couple, both 37, were on their way to the Beauty World MRT station when the crash took place.
Another service 157 passenger, Jessie Foong, 20, said the impact of the crash flung her and others to the floor. She was treated for cuts and abrasion at NUH.
Another passenger, Chou Hui, 48, bit her tongue after she was flung from her seat. Her legs were also swollen as a result of the accident.
Two cleaners at the German European School who witnessed the accident said they saw bus service 157 turning into the bus stop “a bit fast”.
Danni Yahya, 48, said she and her colleague Osman Jom helped to open the rear passenger door of bus service 157 to let some of the injured out of the vehicle.
“People inside were knocking on the door trying to come out, because they (were) scared (that) the bus (might) explode,” Danni told TODAY.
Several elderly passengers were among the injured, she added, including a woman who had blood stains on her back and a man whose hearing aid was damaged as a result of the accident.
Another witness, 40-year-old Amaresh Boekholt, a parent who was dropping her child off at the school, said she heard a “loud bang” and later saw one of the bus drivers “just sitting there”.
In a statement, the Land Transport Authority said it took a serious view of the accident, adding: "(We) have emphasised to the bus operators that safety is of paramount importance. We are working closely with the Police, SBS Transit and SMRT to investigate the incident." — TODAY ONLINE
