Traffic enforcer will receive legal assistance, assures Manila authorities

A TRAFFIC enforcer, who was assaulted by a motorist while carrying out his duty, will receive legal assistance to bring the matter to book.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) assured it's backing for the enforcer, Muslimin Hapi, who was injured after being punched by a motorist in Pasig city, the Philstar.com portal reported.

The altercation occurred after Muslimin pulled over a motorist for a traffic violation along Meralco Avenue at around 7pm on Friday.

Muslimin had thereafter issued an ordinance violation receipt to the motorist for reckless driving but he reportedly resisted and argued over the booking.

At the height of the altercation, Muslimin was allegedly punched in the face and the suspect was subsequently held by police on charges of direct assault.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said the agency would provide legal aid to Muslimin. "We are one with MMDA field personnel who are merely doing their job," Artes said.

"The MMDA does not condone road rage regardless if it is from our ranks or from the public. We want to remind the motorists that they have the right to contest their violation through our Traffic Adjudication Board. All the complaints will be accorded due process," Artes said.
