A LIGHT Rail Transit (LRT) commuter claimed the parking space for the disabled at one of the stations was being taken up by other motorists.
Kamaruddin Hassan, from Shah Alam, said he travelled to Kuala Lumpur via the LRT often as it was faster especially during peak traffic hours.
He was at an LRT station compound on Wednesday when he noticed some drivers had parked their vehicles which had no special disabled sticker at parking bays meant for the disabled.
“Since I live in Shah Alam, the most convenient station for me is the CRC-Glenmarie LRT station and I would park my car there.
“The station has several parking bays reserved for the disabled.
“I noticed that one car had the special disabled person (OKU) vehicle sticker while two other cars had placed A4-sized papers bearing the words, “pregnant woman”, on their car dashboards.
“The disabled parking bays are designated for those who are physically disabled.
“I also want to highlight that the signage for disabled parking has been wrongly placed,” he said.
ACTIONLINE:
A Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) spokesman said the management had instructed its auxiliary policemen at the CGC-Glenmarie station to check on this matter, and had found a few cars without the OKU sign parked in bays meant for the disabled.
“We also found a number of motorcycles parked on the pavement meant for pedestrians.
“Such irresponsible acts could create difficulties for the disabled.
“The gazetted disabled parking bays are only for disabled motorists.
“To those who violate the rules, we will issue summonses and clamp the vehicles.
“We will also increase our patrols to ensure the disabled parking bays are not misused.
“However, responsibility works both ways, and we hope the public will respect the needs of disabled drivers, so that they too will have the opportunity to use the public facilities that have been provided for them.
“We have also provided facilities for pregnant women with designated parking lots at the Ara Damansara station.”
