KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian agro-based players can expect to sell up to RM7.39 million worth of products in the Middle East in the next three years.
This is part of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed today between the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) and TH Global Services Sdn Bhd.
Under the three-year deal, the two parties will promote Malaysian products in Saudi Arabia, and in later stages, the rest of the Gulf Cooperation Countries.
Fama director general Datuk Ahmad Ishak and TH Global Services chief executive officer Adly Mohamed signed the MoU, and both said that three companies have been selected to participate in Phase 1 of the agreement.
Under Phase 2, targeted for end-2017, another 30 companies are expected to take part in the export of Malaysian products that will include food, beverages and products for vending machines to the Middle East.
To kick-off the MoU, 25 tonnes of pre-mixed spices worth RM1 million are being sent to Saudi Arabia to cater for the 30,000 Malaysian Haj pilgrims expected this year. The pre-mixed spices will be used in the 12 kitchens that cater to Malaysian Haj pilgrims.
