Japan July jobless rate flat at 2.8 pct

TOKYO: Japan’s jobless rate was flat at 2.8 per cent in July and the availability of jobs improved for the fifth straight month to reach the highest level since 1974, government data showed on Tuesday.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate matched economists’ median forecast, data by the Internal Affairs ministry showed.

The jobs-to-applicants ratio rose to 1.52 from 1.51 in June, also matching the median forecast. — REUTERS
