KUALA LUMPUR: New vehicles sales dropped 0.9 per cent, or 499 units lower, to 51,720 units in August from 52,219 units a year ago.
The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), however, said the sales volume in August was 6.5 per cent or 3,167 units higher than July.
This was due to promotional campaigns by car companies and the fulfilment of back orders as the “e-daftar” system retuned to normalcy.
Year-to-date’s vehicles sales stood at 384,730 units, or 3.9 per cent higher, from 370,152 units recorded in the same period last year.
MAA said sales volume for September is expected to be maintained at last month’s level due to short working month and on-going promotional campaigns by car companies.
In terms of production, the number slightly increased to 43,688 units in the month of August 2017 from 43,452 units recorded a year ago.
Year-to-date, vehicles’ production numbers eased to 342,958 units from 345,512 units recorded in the same period last year.
