Police car chase leads to discovery of methamphetamine, electric shock device

PETALING JAYA: A car chase between the police and a white Proton Satria driving against traffic to evade a roadblock led to the discovery of methamphetamine and an electric shock device in the vehicle.

Petaling Jaya police chief, Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Ja'afar, said the suspect rammed into the police patrol car and a motorcycle ridden by a member of the public during the chase.

The two local male suspects were then subsequently detained by the police. He said the first suspect, a 30-year-old man, has a criminal record consisting of 11 previous offences and 5 narcotics-related offences, while the second suspect, a passenger in the same vehicle, is 29 years old and has one prior criminal record.

"On Dec 26 at about 11.32am, an incident occurred involving a car chase between a patrol vehicle from the Petaling Jaya police headquarters and a white Proton Satria driving against traffic to evade a roadblock at Km16 of the Damansara-Puchong Expressway. In the attempt to stop the vehicle, the suspect rammed into the police patrol car and a motorcycle ridden by a member of the public. The suspects involved in this incident were apprehended on Jalan PJU 1A/1, Ara Damansara," he said in a statement.

He added that a quantity of drugs, believed to be methamphetamine weighing approximately 12.87 grams, was found in the suspects' vehicle along with a weapon suspected to be an electric shock wave device.

He said the case is being investigated under Sections 307/186/279 of the Penal Code, Section 7 of the Corrosive, Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act, Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He also urged the public to report any information related to criminal activities or suspicious individuals by contacting the nearest police station or the Petaling Jaya District police operations room at 03-79662222.
