KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas Dagangan Bhd (PDB) believes that e-commerce could become one of its key revenue drivers.
“The potential is definitely there, we believe that this (e-commerce) could become a key revenue driver for PDB going forward and we are just scratching the surface now,” said PDB head of retail business Aadrin Azly, at the announcement of the firm’s strategic partnership with Lazada Malaysia.
“I also feel that we are the biggest player in oil and gas (O&G) in Malaysia on this platform right now, which makes us the market leader and we want to make sure we keep it that way.”
PDB’s strategic pact with Lazada marks the third collaboration it has with e-commerce platforms, with the first two being Shopee and 11street.my.
“Because we have only been collaborating with these platforms for only a few months, we can't exactly reveal the exact sales figures but it has been significant and we expect it to grow even bigger than that,” he said.
Aadrin stressed that though PDB is keen to expand the segment, it has to go about carefully as to not alienate existing customers.
“What's important now is not to grow too fast, but to grow deeply because we want to really provide good service to the customers,” he said.
“Though we are keen to expand our e-commerce platform, we will still be selective on who we partners with as customer satisfactory is still our main priority.”
Both PDB and Lazada said that the partnership have no specific timeline, but will grow as organically as necessarily needed.
