BUTTERWORTH: The Penang Road Transport Department (JPJ) has seized 17 vehicles driven by foreign nationals in a special operation codenamed 'Ops Khas Pemandu Warga Asing' (PeWA) at the Tun Hussain Onn Roundabout in Seberang Jaya, two days ago.
The operation, which lasted approximately three hours starting at 7am, resulted in JPJ issuing 116 summonses to individuals from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia, and the Rohingyas.
According to the state JPJ in a statement, the confiscated vehicles included 14 motorcycles, two cars, and one van, along with other vehicles displaying incorrect registration numbers.
"Among the most common offences were driving without a licence, expired motor vehicle license (LKM), and lack of insurance coverage," Harian Metro reported.
The operation aimed to monitor, detect, and take action against non-compliance with the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and its regulations regarding foreign nationals.
