KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's gross domestic product (GDP) registered a growth of 5.0 per cent in 2015 as compared to 5.5 percent in 2010, according to The Statistics Department latest report.
According to the department's Economic Census (BE) 2016, value added in 2015 increased to RM983.1 billion as compared to RM665.9 billion in 2010 with an annual growth rate of 8.1 per cent.
The agency said a total of 920,624 establishments were covered in 2015 compared to 648,260 establishments in 2010.
Value of gross output amounted to RM2,489.5 billion with an annual growth of 7.5 per cent per annum for the reference period.
Further, for 2015, the department noted 8.7 million persons working in the formal private sector in Malaysia, concentrated largely in services (54.9%) and manufacturing sector (24.3%).
Male workers dominated, with a share of 67.7 per cent while female workers contributed 32.3 per cent while 61.9 per cent were semi-skilled workers, followed by skilled workers (23.5%) and low-skilled workers (14.6%).
Total salaries and wages paid for all sectors in Malaysia in 2015 amounted to RM245.69 billion.
The department also noted that halal statistics in Malaysia in 2015 showed a positive annual growth rate compared to 2010.
A total of 6,138 establishments which received JAKIM Halal certification operated at an average annual growth rate of 13.0% over the two period.
The total number of women's establishments in Malaysia in 2015 was 636 establishments compared to 213 establishments in 2010 with an average annual growth rate of 24.5%.
The gross output value in 2015 was RM208 billion with an increase of 9.0% annually while value added in 2015 was RM42.2 billion compared to RM23.9 billion in 2010 with an average annual growth of 12.0%.
