KUALA LUMPUR: Lafarge Malaysia Bhd has announced the appointment of Mario Gross as president and chief executive officer (CEO), effective April 1, 2018, succeeding Thierry Legrand.
Gross, 39, joins Lafarge Malaysia from Sika AG (Sika) and has got 15 years of global experience in the construction material business holding senior roles across Germany, China, Thailand and Switzerland.
He started his career with Sika in 2002 and was Asia Pacific head of procurement from 2007 to 2011 located in Suzhou, China.
In 2011, he was appointed managing director of Sika in Thailand, Laos and Myanmar, before assuming in 2013 his most recent role as Head of Global Procurement, Quality & Sustainability of Sika AG, Zurich.
Commenting on Mario’s appointment, Legrand said, “In my three years with the company, I am proud of Lafarge Malaysia’s achievements in strengthening our business, putting in place the building blocks for future growth.
“I am confident that with Mario’s business acumen, experience and leadership, he will take Lafarge Malaysia to the next level of growth in the coming years,” he said.
Lafarge Malaysia has distinguished itself as the preferred partner in complex construction projects and contributing to the majority of infrastructure projects in the country.
The company has also made significant progress in modernising the way it goes to market with the establishment of outlets with “perfect wall” displays showing the right products for the right applications across the country.
Most recently, Lafarge Malaysia launched the MYHOME initiative to provide Malaysians an opportunity to give their input in a build that will turn a future house into their ideal home.
The project is the first of its kind in the country where Malaysians are actively invited to collaborate in the design of a home before it is even built. The survey runs until March 31, 2018.
