Mercedes-Benz Malaysia begins 2018 with 13.2pc growth

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd (MBM) posted a sales of 3,335 vehicles sold for the first quarter of this year.

The German auto marque also posted a double digit growth of 13.2 per cent for the first quarter of 2018 as compared to 2,895 units sold in the first quarter of 2017, bucking the declining domestic automotive market trend.

President and chief executive officer Dr Claus Weidner said sales in January and February this year were the main growth drivers.

"We had record January and February sales. In January, we notched impressive 1,200 vehicles sold while in February, 1,185 units were sold.

"It was a stellar first quarter for us in 2018, our best ever first quarter,” Claus said at a media briefing here today.

The brand's locally produced limousines namely, the Mercedes-Benz C, E-, and S-Class, collectively recorded a total of 1,965 units sold.

Compact vehicles comprising the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, B-Class, GLA and CLA Class recorded 596 units sold.

The two segments recorded increases of eight per cent and 37.3 per cent respectively compared to the same period last year.

The Mercedes-Benz SUV range also remained a growth driver recording 675 units sold, which translated into a 13.6 per cent jump from the same period last year.

The Mercedes-Benz Dream Cars range had 94 units sold, a one per cent jump compared to the first quarter of last year.

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has introduced EQ – the new brand for electric mobility which stands for “Electric Intelligence”.

Claus said EQ brand stands as a pioneer of future mobility solutions, relaunching the Mercedes-Benz C 350 e and E 350 e as EQ Power products - precursors to future all-electric vehicles.

The car company will continue to support the nation’s ambition of becoming the regional Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) hub as all Mercedes-Benz charging stations are also rebranded as EQ facilities, he added.
