KUALA LUMPUR: The connected mobility highlighted in the new National Automotive Policy 2018 (NAP 2018) is a step in the right direction that will position Malaysia in the automotive industry moving forward, said BMW Malaysia Chief Financial Officer Michael Rainer.

He said this showed that Malaysia was committed to turn itself into a hub for high technology.

“When it comes to BMW, we are already moving in this direction,” he said on the sidelines of the four-day Malaysia Autoshow 2018, which concluded at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang, on Sunday.

Rainer said this would also serve as a validation of the government’s direction to focus on these areas within the automotive industry.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had announced that details of the policy framework would be revealed in the third quarter of this year.

He said that emphasis would be given on four pillars, namely new generation vehicles, mobility, Industrial Revolution 4.0, and Artificial Intelligence.

The review of the of the country’s automotive policy, which was first introduced in 2014, would be co- conducted by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and the Malaysia Automotive Institute.
