World Bank appoints Raad as new Country Manager for Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Firas Raad has been appointed as the new Country Manager for the World Bank Group Global Knowledge and Research Hub in Malaysia.

Raad, a Jordanian national, joined the Bank in 2002 as Senior Health Policy Specialist. He has since held various management positions, his most recent assignment being Country Manager for Kuwait.

“I am extremely honored to be taking on the role of Country Manager and will be focusing on deepening our collaboration with the Malaysian government and other stakeholders in working towards innovative development solutions for all Malaysians,” said Raad.

“We will also continue to leverage on Malaysia’s own journey in ending poverty and sharing prosperity over recent decades to support other countries with similar aspirations.”

“Our collaboration with Malaysia is testament of how a country, on the cusp of high income, can continue as a close partner and member of the World Bank Group,” Mara Warwick, Country Director for Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand.

“We highly value this partnership and will continue to facilitate Malaysia’s growing role as a global development partner.”

The World Bank Group Global Knowledge and Research Hub in Malaysia shares Malaysia’s development experiences with countries around the world, and provides Malaysia with access to global knowledge and expertise as it transitions into a high-income and developed economy.

The Hub produces development policy research and analytical work on regional and global issues.
