KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Property Bhd has appointed Datuk Azmir Merican as group managing director (MD) effective from April 22.
Azmir is currently UEM Edgenta Bhd MD and chief executive officer (CEO).
“Azmir’s appointment reinforces the board’s commitment to ensuring Sime Darby Property’s leadership in the industry and towards creating sustainable, long term value for its stakeholders.
“We would like to welcome Azmir to Sime Darby Property and look forward to working closely with him,” said group chairman Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz.
Sime Darby Property said Datuk Wan Hashimi Albakri would continue in his current role as acting group CEO until Azmir’s effective appointment date.
Subsequently, Wan Hashimi will resume the role of Sime Darby Property township development chief operating officer.
Last week, UEM Edgenta Bhd announced that Azmir had tendered his resignation effective from April 21.
Azmir had been the CEO and managing director of UEM Edgenta since August 2014.
He joined parent group UEM Group Bhd as group chief operating officer of business units in October 2012.
UEM Edgenta is a 68.15 per cent unit of Khazanah Nasional Bhd and is involved in the maintenance of highways, healthcare support services and engineering and asset management consultancy, among others.
