KUALA LUMPUR: Boustead Holdings Bhd has announced the appointment of Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin as its non-executive chairman.
Khaled is a nominee of Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT), Boustead's largest shareholder.
"We are confident that the group is in very good hands under his proven leadership," Boustead managing director Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin said today.
"His vast experience from leading Johor as well as his key positions in various ministries, will certainly strengthen the board in guiding Boustead to improve the way we do business and increase our prospects over the long term," Amrin added.
Khaled, 61, was Johor Menteri Besar from 2013 to 2018.
Under his leadership, Johor witnessed a steady growth in its economy, with a gross domestic product (GDP) standing at RM100 billion.
The state's average GDP growth rate was 5.9 per cent, which at the time surpassed Malaysia's average GDP growth of 5.1 per cent.
From 2013 to 2017, Johor was also the leading investment destination in Malaysia with RM114.9 billion of investments in the manufacturing sector alone.
Khaled also served as Johor Corp Bhd (JCorp) chairman.
He was on the boards of JCorp's companies as well as other Johor state agencies.
During his tenure at JCorp, the group implemented several restructuring and turnaround exercises.
Khaled was Minister of Higher Education from 2008 to 2013.
He was also Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development from 2004 to 2008, and from 1990 to 2004, Deputy Works Minister .
Before he embarked on a career of public service, he was attached to Petroliam Nasional Bhd.
