Iconic Worldwide launches face mask vending machines

KUALA LUMPUR: Iconic Worldwide Bhd's (IWB) wholly-owned subsidiary Iconic Medicare Sdn Bhd (Iconic Medicare), launched its new Iconic face mask vending machine.

Iconic Medicare also announced its collaboration with CapitaLand Malaysia to distribute Iconic face mask vending machines to the latter's seven malls namely Queensbay Mall in Penang, Melawati Mall in Kuala Lumpur, and five more owned by CapitaLand Malaysia Mall Trust – Gurney Plaza in Penang, Sungei Wang in Kuala Lumpur, 3 Damansara in Petaling Jaya, The Mines in Selangor and East Coast Mall in Kuantan.

The Iconic face mask vending machines contain standard three-ply disposable face masks as well as decorative three-ply disposable face masks for both adult and children sizes.

All of these face masks are produced at Iconic Medicare's manufacturing facility located at Juru, Penang.

"As wearing face masks in public has become compulsory, we have devised a convenient way for mall visitors to be able to obtain protective three-ply face masks from the vending machines found in all CapitaLand malls in Malaysia.

"Consumers have also indicated an increasing preference for decorative face masks, therefore we have produced something that fulfils both style and protection with Iconic Medicare's decorative three-ply face masks," IWB executive director Jason Chung Wei Chiun said in a statement today.

The event was held at Queensbay Mall here over the weekend.

During the launch event, Iconic Medicare presented to CapitaLand Malaysia representatives two face mask vending machines which will be installed at Queensbay Mall.

"We are very excited for this opportunity to collaborate with CapitaLand Malaysia, and we hope to continue generating value for each other in the long run as well as seek innovative ways to benefit our respective customers.

"As part of our initial plan, we are in the progress of distributing fourteen of Iconic face mask vending machines to CapitaLand malls in Malaysia," Jason said.

The company will be exploring further opportunities to distribute the face mask vending machines to other malls around Malaysia, as there have been several parties who have voiced their interest in the product.

To recap, IWB had on 10 June 2020 announced its venture into face mask manufacturing under its wholly-owned subsidiary Iconic Medicare.

The manufacturing facility located at Juru, Penang is capable of producing face masks at a rate of 100pcs/min, amounting to approximately two to three million face masks a month.

The company also plans to increase production to 5 million face masks a month by the third quarter of 2020.

IWB added that this is its first baby steps into diversifying into the manufacturing segment, as the company sees a need to adopt to the new normal by venturing into new and relevant businesses.

The face mask business will start to contribute to the company's financial year ending 31 March 2021, and also help to cushion the slight impact towards its property and tourism business which has been affected by Covid-19.

For the financial year (FY) 2021, property development will continue to be the main driver of the company, supported by its tourism segment and followed closely by its new manufacturing segment.
