KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia ranks fourth in terms of the top overseas countries purchasing from China on online shopping day, the 11.11 by gross merchandise value.
As of 9am today (Wednesday), Malaysia came just behind the US, Russia and France, according to Alibaba Group's news hub, Alizila.
ShopBack Malaysia country general manager Eddy Han said this was a testament to Malaysians' spending power on 11.11.
Han said during 11.11 last year, more than RM20 million worth of merchant sales were generated through ShopBack Malaysia.
"With the promising results seen in the first hour of 11.11 this year, we are confident of breaking last year's record," he said in a statement today.
He said undoubtedly, 12am-1am was the peak shopping hour, as hundreds of thousands of bargain hunters rushed to shop online and check out their purchases.
Key findings from ShopBack Malaysia's first hour user shopping data include significant increase in terms of shopping traffic in the first hour and shoppers visited general marketplaces such as Shopee and Taobao the most, followed by fashion stores such as Zalora and Adidas, and health and beauty stores such as Watsons.
Besides that, Han said among the more than 80 Shopee official stores that were directly offering cashback on ShopBack, Enfagrow, P&G, Pediasure, Samsung, and Vinda are leading in terms of sales transacted by ShopBack users in the first hour.
Han said as the leading rewards and discovery platform, ShopBack had partnered with more than 500 e-merchants in Malaysia to reward up to 30 per cent cashback when shoppers go through ShopBack to make purchases.
The list of e-merchants includes Alibaba's group Taobao, Tmall and AliExpress, as well as adidas, Agoda, Nike, Survey Wall, Shopee, Uniqlo, Watsons, Zalora, and many more.
Over the years, ShopBack has evolved from a cashback model to become a pre-shopping portal that helps shoppers make better purchase decisions.
To date, more than three million Malaysians are using ShopBack for their daily purchases.
"We constantly improve our features to help shoppers to cut through the clutter of deals across the internet, plus sweeten their buys with timely offers, more cashback and exclusive vouchers," he said.
