KUALA LUMPUR: Cloud technologies continue to be top-of-mind for business leaders as they look to maintain and strengthen business agility and continuity, build operational resilience, and innovate with new offerings.
Nutanix Malaysia country manager Avinash Gowda said the company had seen the increased use of automation to simplify and streamline database management, and tackle specialist shortages in business.
"The Covid-19 pandemic has dispersed workforces around the world. As a result, we continue to see a rise in technological upgrades to support the decentralisation of teams, especially in Malaysia.
"Alhough some companies may have had remote work capabilities in place before the crisis, almost all have had to scale up to increase their flexibility," Gowda told the New Straits Times in an interview.
He said business leades were seeing the proliferation of end-user computing and virtual desktop infrastructure, enabling information technology teams to set up and support their organisations' remote work environments, while enhancing their agility to adapt to future changes in the workforce.
According to the Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Index report, 67 per cent of Malaysian respondents had boosted public cloud usage and 51 per cent increased hybrid cloud usage as a result of Covid-19.
This growth and interest in public and hybrid cloud have been largely driven by rising needs for digitalisation and business agility.
Gowda said the company was seeing a significant shift to hybrid and multi cloud environments.
"Over the course of the pandemic, organisations rushed to embrace public cloud and virtual desktop interface and while these may have worked well in the short term to keep business applications running as usual, enterprises are fast realizing the limitations of rising costs, bandwidth, and even regulatory issues," he added.
He said as the company's enterprise cloud index results had shown, customers across the region were identifying hybrid and multi cloud solutions and architecture as the most effective way of managing their data and applications over multiple clouds.
"These also offer businesses the flexibility and security necessary without the financial burden of a costly investment. All in all, these are real challenges for businesses and customers in their journey to the cloud, that if unaddressed, can serve to hinder effective cloud adoption.
"We aim to simplify that journey as much as possible, and help businesses navigate their way to the cloud," he added.
