KUALA LUMPUR: Media Prima Bhd has appointed Samuel Wee as chief executive officer of the group's digital arm, REV Media Group (REV Media), effective October 1, 2021.
In a statement today, the fully integrated media company said Sam would report to the group's managing director Rafiq Razali.
"I am very pleased to announce Wee as the chief executive officer of REV Media Group. I have worked closely with Sam in establishing REV Media to be Malaysia's leading digital publisher.
"He is a very capable leader with a strong track record in the industry. Wee is well acquainted with the REV Media culture and business, and I trust that he will take the team onwards and upwards to their next level of growth," said Rafiq.
Wee first joined Media Prima in 2017 as REV Media group (business operations) general manager, a subsidiary of Media Prima Digital.
He was later promoted to chief operating officer in 2020.
Media Prima said Wee played a key role in growing REV Media to become Malaysia's number one digital publisher, representing over 40 top authority brands and engaging more than 15 million Malaysians.
Before joining Media Prima, Wee and a group of pioneers established Malaysia's leading digital media group, REV Asia Holdings, which acquired SAYS, OHBULAN!, and ViralCham to turbocharge its growth.
He also led REV Asia Holdings' regional expansion into the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam.
REV Asia Holdings was acquired by Media Prima in August 2017 and rebranded as REV Media Group in 2020.
Wee started his career with HSBC Malaysia in corporate strategy and business transformation before venturing into the start-up scene as one of the founding members of SAYS.
Wee holds a bachelor of business in finance and management from the University of Technology, Sydney, and is also the recipient of the HSBC's Young Entrepreneur Awards 2006 (Asia).
Wee will be taking on the role of REV Media's former chief executive officer, Rafiq, who was appointed as group managing director of Media Prima on October 1, 2021.
