KUALA LUMPUR: Ta Win Holdings Bhd, via its subsidiary Cyprium Wire Technology Sdn Bhd (CWT), has started construction of Malaysia's first local privately-owned electron beam irradiation plant.
Located at CWT's existing manufacturing facilities in Alor Gajah Industrial Estate, Melaka, the plant is targeted for completion by April next year.
In a statement today, the integrated manufacturer of copper products said as part of CWT's sales and consultation agreement with CGN Dasheng Electron Accelerator Technology Co Ltd, the plant will be equipped with electron beam irradiation systems.
Present at the ground breaking ceremony for the plant were Nuclear Malaysia director general Dr Siti A'iasah Hashim, Nuclear Malaysia senior director of commercialisation and planning programme Mohd Sidek Othman, Ta Win chairman Datuk Yeo Boon Leong, Ta Win group managing director Datuk Seri Ngu Tieng Ung, CWT managing director Justin Wong and CWT chief technical director Wong Ah Piaw.
Siti A'iasah said the new irradiation facility will earmark Malaysia's step forward to increase local production of high value products through high technology, especially in the wire and cable industry.
"More importantly, it will be able to support and cater to the electric vehicle industry's need for efficient and quality cabling.
"The technology involved in this project is environmentally-friendly and thus, is in line with the government's pledge towards making Malaysia cleaner and greener," she said.
Ngu said not only is this a significant milestone for Ta Win, it is also a landmark for the nation as this will be the first local privately-owned facility of this kind in Malaysia.
"Once completed, the electron beam irradiation plant will expand our capabilities to meet the growing global needs of the EV (electric vehicle) segment by supplying irradiated cross-linked wire and cable products utilising the patented electron beam cross-linked technology.
"This will enable us to develop advanced technological solutions and highly engineered products for a wide a range of industries," he said.
Ngu added that the company will be establishing an additional two plants, with all three slated to be fully completed within 24 months.
"This certainly puts the group on track to continue accelerating our foothold in the global EV supply chain and strengthening our long-term prospects moving forward," he added.
