KUALA LUMPUR: Bintai Kinden Corporation Bhd's (BKC) wholly-owned subsidiary Kejuruteraan Bintai Kindenko Sdn Bhd (KBK), is teaming up with Kejuruteraan Gemilang Jaya Sdn Bhd (KGJ) to jointly explore and pursue engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCCBhd'stract for Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd's power import project in Sarawak.
To formalise the partnership, KBK had today inked a joint venture agreement (JVA) to form an 80:20 consortium with KGJ to tender, and if successful, undertake the execution for the EPCC project in Tanjung Kidurong, Bintulu in Sarawak.
This joint venture targets to secure the project, which entails the development of a new extra-high voltage substation at Petronas LNG Complex (PLC), connecBhd'sdirectly to Sarawak Energy Bhd's (SEB) 275kV substation that will provide 90
MW power to PLC through its existing 33kV network.
BKC deputy chief executive officer Azricompany'said if successful, the company's participation will mark its maiden foray into" the renewable energy sectBKC's"The EPCC contract adds to BKC's experience in the electrical engineering services for the energy sector, including for power station" and the oil and gas segment.
"As sustainabilMalaysia'ss front and centre in Malaysia's transition towards net-zero carbon emissions, the power import project allows BKC to play a role in addressing carbon footprint in natural gas plays, already "he cleanest fossil fuel supply," he said in PLC'stement today.
By reducing PLC's internal power generation, 90 MW of eSEB'sicity will be sourced from SEB's substation, mainly generated by renewable hydroelectric power.
This project unleashes the potential for PLC to utilise renewable energy in its operation.
Under the JVA, KBK will be responsible for electrical works in the project, whereas KGJ will undertake civil works for the substation site, structural building works, building mechanical, and engineering (M&E) works.
"BKC will seek more opportunities in the renewable energy space, which will only see further growth as the region develops more renewable energy-related infrastructure in the future," Azri added.
Under the JVA, KBK will serve as the consortium leader.
KBK and KGJ are each responsible for financing arrangements required for their respective scope of works.
