KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) will organise a Palm Oil Economic Review and Outlook (R&O) Seminar 2022 on January 13, 2022.
In a statement today, MPOB said the event aims to disseminate information regarding the performance of the Malaysian oil palm industry in 2021, market prospects and price outlook for 2022.
Plantations Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin is expected to officiate the seminar, one of MPOB's platforms, to provide the latest updates on the palm oil industry development.
Themed' The Oil Palm Industry: Navigating Challenges Embracing Opportunities in a Post-Covid Landscape', the seminar will also focus on the way forward for the palm oil industry, approaches taken by the government, and trade development and its impact on the commodity.
MPOB said nine papers on the performance of the palm oil industry for 2021, market prospects and outlook for 2022 would be presented.
MPOB director-general Datuk Dr Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir will present a paper on the performance of the palm oil industry in 2021 and prospects for 2022.
Palm oil expert, Dr Julian McGill of LMC International Ltd, will also deliver a paper on the price of palm oil in 2021 and the outlook for 2022.
Meanwhile, another industry expert, Dr Sathia Varqa, will share his thoughts on the price volatility of edible oils and palm oil market sustainability factors.
Another industry expert U.R. Unnithan of the Malaysian Biodiesel Association will deliver a paper on the prospect of the Malaysian biodiesel industry. At the same time, Mohamed Helmy Othman Basha of Sime Darby Plantation Bhd will present a paper on labour shortage issues amidst the global pandemic.
Meanwhile, the secretary-general of Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry Datuk Ravi Muthayah will also deliver a paper on the opportunities and challenges of the palm oil industry amidst the high palm oil prices.
Also, the Malaysian Palm Oil Council chief executive officer Wan Aishah Wan Hamid will share her thoughts on the changing dynamics of the Indian edible oil policy and its impact on palm oil demand.
"The seminar will provide opportunities for the participants to update on the latest performance of the palm oil industry, post Covid-19 strategies and market developments," said Ahmad Parveez.
Local industry players, exporters, economists, policymakers and academicians are encouraged to participate in this seminar.
