#SHOWBIZ: Awie gets emotional visiting ailing Ebby Yus [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Datuk Awie was moved to tears upon visiting his long-time friend, actor and comedian Ebby Yus, who is battling chronic kidney disease.

The visit took place at Ebby's residence in Kampung Baru, here yesterday.

Awie, accompanied by his team from Rumah Produksi Merah, provided financial aid to Ebby, who has been dealing with health challenges since his 20s.

"He never showed his pain or asked for help. It's incredible how independent he is despite his struggles. "This inspired us to come and offer support immediately," Awie told Harian Metro.

The 55-year-old rocker expressed his hope that his visit would lift Ebby's spirits and encourage him to keep fighting.

"Seeing his condition is heartbreaking, but I hope our presence gives him strength," he added.

The two share more than just a connection in the arts; they have also bonded through silat.

"We've performed together in silat showcases. I deeply respect his strength and abilities," said Awie, who also recalled Ebby's positive feedback on his judging style for Muzikal Lawak Superstar.

Reflecting on his own health, Awie, who overcame kidney cancer in 2021, advised the public to prioritise their well-being.

"Take care of your diet, get enough sleep, and exercise.

"Health is precious, and life is unpredictable," he said.

Also present during the visit was Rumah Produksi Merah managing director, Datuk Eddy Amir Salim.

Ebby, 59, expressed his gratitude for the visit and support.

"I can't thank them enough for their kindness. I leave everything to God but will continue to work as long as I can," he said.

Talking about his condition, Ebby said that he undergoes water dialysis twice daily, with each session lasting about 40 minutes, at home.

"Alhamdulillah, I now do water dialysis because my heart cannot handle blood dialysis. I've even set up a special room for this at home," he said.

He also limits his water intake to 800ml daily but is relieved his weight has increased from 59kg to 64kg.

"I have an appetite to eat now and urinating is no longer an issue," he added.

Ebby also revealed that he had declined kidney donations from three individuals.

"I didn't have the heart to take someone else's kidney because they had their own wives and children to think about.

"If I have rezeki to have good health, Alhamdulillah. If not, my time has come."
