KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has added two highly exclusive Mercedes-Maybach models to its luxury portfolio: the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class 580 4Matic and Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4Matic.

"To present the best of the best": that was the ambition voiced by Karl Maybach and his father Wilhelm when they debuted the Maybach 22/70 HP W3 a century ago in September 1921 – planting the seed for Mercedes-Maybach to become one of the most unique and exclusive automotive brands today," she said at the launch today.
Priced from RM1.93 million (recommended retail price is on-the-road inclusive of five per cent sales tax until the end of the tax-free incentive period), the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class 580 4Matic has an 18-centimetre longer wheelbase than the long variant of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
It is powered by an eight-cylinder petrol engine (M176) with integrated second-generation starter-alternator (ISG) and 48-volt onboard electrical system.
Dynamic Select allows the driver to individually modify the characteristics of the powertrain, ESP, suspension and steering.
Exclusivity is emphasised by the Maybach brand logo on the C-pillar, chrome surrounding the grille, and a two-tone paint finish with a dividing line (available as optional equipment, with additional costs).
It is also equipped with electrically operated comfort rear doors as standard - in combination with the second generation Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) Interior Assistant in the rear they can be closed by a gesture of the hand and stopped by extending an arm
Digital Light technology is also now in full series production with the new S-Class generation allowing completely new functions.
Noise insulation and mood lighting plays a major role in the cabin's comfort and ambience.
Vehicle systems, sensor data, up to five display screens available in part with OLED technology, included a 12.8-inch OLED central display as a high-tech control centre is powered by the second generation MBUX.
Passengers in the rear have an automatic seat belt extender for the first time. The seat belt extender is integrated into the adjustable backrest of the Executive seat, and therefore always in the right position for the passenger.
New and extended driver assistance systems like the Pre-Safe positioning function is present moving the rear seats to a more favourable crash position. This is in combination with the active multicontour seats in the Rear Seat Comfort Package for additional protection.
The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4Matic on the other hand was brought in to engage the luxury sports utility (SUV) segment.
Developed exclusively for the Maybach is the usage of a V8 engine that can develop 410 kW (557 hp) and 730 Nm of torque in combination of a 48-volt system EQ boost. It is priced from RM1,789,453.18 (recommended retail price is on-the-road inclusive of 5pct Sales Tax until the end of the tax-free incentive period).
Its headlamps with Multibeam LED technology as standard present the entire front lighting as if in jewellery showcases. Also a Maybach-specific feature is the two-tone paintwork planned in eight different color combinations.
The interior offer drivers and passenger's comfortable seating on all four or five seats. The executive rear can especially be used both as an office and as a private relaxation zone, including the integration of digital devices.
All seats are electrically adjustable, heated, climatised, and equipped with massage functions as standard. The climatised seats and the massage functions are integrated into the Energizing package's comfort control. All of the rear seats' comfort functions can be controlled using the rear MBUX command centre.
One of the stand-out features of the Executive seat is the cushion airbag in the seat cushion.
It is designed to stop the rear passenger from sliding under the belt when the seat is in the reclined position in the event of a frontal impact.
The cushion airbag restrains the passenger as effectively as possible and the seat belt equipped with inertia-reel tensioners and belt force limiters.
Daimler acquired Maybach Motorenbau GmbH in 1960 and a new era was ushered in with the Maybach 62 in 2002.
