KUALA LUMPUR: Former international Liew Daren and National Sports Council (NSC) sports analyst Jerry Gan were suspended from all badminton activities by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) due to their involvement in betting- related activities from 2018 to 2021.
Daren was given a 12-month suspension while Jerry received a three-month penalty.
Daren was a World Championships bronze medallist in 2018, and also acted as Lee Zii Jia's assistant coach from 2022 to 2023.
According to a BWF report, the world body initiated an investigation after receiving a report from a third party regarding "suspicious betting activity" in a match played by Daren at an international tournament.
Investigations revealed further evidence through mobile phone records, chats and bank details.
Jerry was found guilty of betting on matches and failing to report Daren's activities to the BWF Integrity unit.
BWF has also confirmed that the decisions are final as Daren and Jerry have not made any appeal to the Independent Hearing Panel.
