KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is now the country of choice for international travellers from Indonesia, according to Traveloka Malaysia.
The travel super app revealed that 79 per cent of international trips to Malaysia booked on its platform since March 22, 2022 – following the announcement of the reopening of Malaysian borders – have been by users from Indonesia.
In a statement today, the super app said it has recorded a 38 per cent jump overall in hotel and flight bookings by international travellers into Malaysia.
"The popularity of Malaysia among regional travellers could be attributed to our eclectic blend of modernity and culture, traditions and nature," said Traveloka Malaysia country manager Angelica Chan.
Noting the spike in international bookings, she said the travellers mainly booked hotels in Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Penang, and Sarawak.
"We have noted an increasing trend of travellers who booked their accommodations through our travel super app, who will also proceed to book at least one additional product and service from our partners, such as car rental, tourist attraction tickets or spa packages," she said, adding that this is more apparent among travellers who remain in Malaysia for a month or longer.
While it is optimistic about opportunities from the pent-up travel demand, she noted that Traveloka will remain mindful of the current COVID-19 situation and has provided features for its users to keep up with latest COVID-19 travel requirements as well as providing rescheduling facilities.
