MANJUNG: The victim of a crash involving two vehicles at Km212.3 of the West Coast Expressway (WCE) southbound, near the Sitiawan North exit earlier today, apologised to her husband before taking her last breath.
Mohammad Syuqur Ahmad, 24, said his wife, Nor Fadhilah Mohd Azlan, 24, repeatedly apologised while in critical condition after the Perodua Kelisa they were in skidded and flipped over.
"My wife was in a severe condition. She apologised to me and I told her it was okay, not to dwell on the past, and I tried to calm her down.
"I guided her to recite the 'shahada'. Shortly after, she went silent," he said at Seri Manjung Hospital.
The 5am crash also claimed the life of their youngest child, Muhammad Iman Irfan, who was 15 months old. Their eldest child, Muhammad Alif Sufi, 3, was injured.
Syuqur said they were on their way from their home in Gelung Pepuyu, Bota, to Kampung Acheh, Sitiawan, when the incident happened.
The lorry driver said he had planned to pick up a parked lorry in Kampung Acheh before having breakfast with his family, but the car he was driving skidded when he tried to avoid an animal crossing the road.
"I was unconscious when our car flipped over in the middle of the road. When I regained consciousness, I found that the impact had thrown our youngest child out of the car.
"My wife, our eldest child and I were rescued with the help of passers-by," he said.
Syuqur said that they had just returned from visiting Fadhilah's family in Felda Lui Selatan, Negri Sembilan, yesterday.
He said his wife was cheerful back in her hometown because she was able to spend time with her family.
"In the car, she also asked me to send her regards and apologies to my mother and her mother.
"I was curious and asked her why she said that, but she just replied, 'I don't know, maybe it's meant to be'," he said, accepting the loss of two loved ones.
He said Alif Sufi, who was injured, knew about the death of his mother and younger sibling, and is traumatised.
He said the remains of Fadhilah and Iman Irfan would be buried at the Felda Lui Selatan Muslim cemetery.
