Malaysia still investment destination of choice: iQiyi

KUALA LUMPUR: Pan-Asian on-demand video streaming platform iQiyi is confident that Malaysia is still an investment destination of choice, as it sees the growth of its local operations this year.

iQiyi Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei country manager Dinesh Ratnam said iQiyi remained focused on building a broad partner ecosystem in Malaysia to revitalise local and Asian entertainment for international users.

Ratnam said the company was committed to providing the most technologically advanced solutions for its advertising partners to effectively target audience segments through the growing over-the- top (OTT) ecosystem.

"Our revenue growth has been in line with our user growth. So I think we are really encouraged by that. Based on the performance of our business, we are confident to continue to invest in the country," he said at the launch of My Ofis-an iQiyi global exclusive title recently.

Aiming to showcase the Malaysian culture and language to the international audience, Ratnam said the iQiyi had partnered with Longhouse Films to leverage on its expertise to produce My Ofis.

My Ofis is an advertisement breakthrough with the drama being a new concept of content-to-commerce innovation in Malaysia.

In addition to its unique office-theme dramedy, My Ofis is also incorporated with e-commerce via QR Code.

With its e-commerce ecosystem powered by JOCOM: Your Pocket Supermarket, a home-grown e-commerce app, Ratnam said consumers can simply scan the QR code which appears alongside a product placement in the drama and be seamlessly directed to the e-commerce page on the JOCOM app on their smartphones to make their purchase and have it delivered straight to their doorstep.

"Together with our partners Longhouse Films and JOCOM, we aim to work towards shaping a new content ecosystem fitting for today's digital age, that empowers traditional brands and sellers to further digitalise through entertainment.

"MyOfis will open doors to more opportunities in bridging entertainment and e-commerce to support local brands, advertisers and marketers," he said.

Premiering on May 26, My Ofis is an office-themed comedy drama that centers around the challenges of an intern, Jasper, a rockstar wannabe who chooses to let go of his boy band/heavy metal fame to support his grandmother by turning to corporate life.

A 100 per cent authentic modern Malaysian story, My Ofis, hits all the sweet spots as the iQiyi global exclusive title mirrors the going-back-to-office life after two years of the pandemic that would resonate with the local and global office.

The relatable storyline peppered with lighthearted humor is created and presented by Malaysia's finest homegrown talents both on and off screen and aims to showcase our unique Malaysian culture and language to international audiences across 191 territories.
