Airasia's F&B brand Santan to expand to Asean

KUALA LUMPUR: airasia's Santan, the world's first restaurant brand by an airline to offer in-flight food on ground, is planning for an expansion in Malaysia and Asean in 2023.

General manager of airasia's Santan, Catherine Goh said Santan restaurants would be opened in Penang, Sabah and Sarawak as well as Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand in the upcoming future.

"From next year, we're looking at expanding into other countries especially in Asean. We're also looking at expanding into the UK and Australia when the time is right," she told reporters after the unveiling of airasia Santan's new Nasi Lemak On-The-Go here today.

Catherine added that for this year, one new Santan restaurant would be opened in a mall in Kuala Lumpur.

airasia's Santan first opened its flagship store in 2019 and has since branched out to 11 outlets across the Klang Valley.

Its restaurants can be found at Aeon Shah Alam, IOI Mall Puchong, KL East Mall, Kompleks PKNS, Nu Sentral, RedQ (AirAsia's headquarters), Setia City Mall and Sunway Pyramid, while its cafes are located at The Gardens, RedQ and RedStation in KL Sentral.

Catherine said airasia's Santan would expand in Malaysia with a new concept whereby its restaurants will be opened in a shop lot instead of shopping mall.

"When we think about the ease of consumption, it's not just the packaging. It's not just about how you eat. It's how we can make it more convenient for people to go (to the restaurants).

Meanwhile, Santan's new Nasi Lemak On-The-Go will soon be available at convenient stores and petrol stations in the next two months.

Currently, it will be available at airasia Santan restaurants at RM4.90. Starting from next month, the meal will be available in Santan cafes, AirAsia flights and airasia food.

Designed specially with busy foodies in mind, the pyramid-shaped Nasi Lemak On-The-Go comes with the same great taste and with a unique packaging that allows for patrons to have their meals anytime, anywhere with ease and convenience.
