KUALA LUMPUR: Legoland Malaysia Resort, the first Legoland theme park in Asia, is making significant investments for expansion to draw international and local tourists in support of the government's tourism revitalising efforts.
Legoland Malaysia divisional director CS Lim said the company was optimistic that the industry would continue to recover as it prepared a line-up of activities to cater to the pent up demand.
"The recovery for this year has been very positive and the number of visits have been increasing since borders reopened in April.
"We will continue to build on our fundamentals and focus on our strategic priorities by investing in enhancing, expanding and establishing new activities to provide our guests with a truly unique experience that is only available in Legoland," said Lim during a briefing on the resort's 10th anniversary here today.
Legoland Malaysia, the country's first international theme park, opened its doors in 2012 with owner Khazanah Nasional Bhd reportedly having spent RM720 million it and another RM190 million on Legoland Hotel.
The major enhancements that will take place at the resort include a shaded miniland which will enable guests to stroll comfortably while browsing iconic landmarks made of Lego bricks.
This feature will be available from January 2023.
The company also plans to refurbish Legoland hotel rooms with new themes in the first quarter (Q1) of next year and hold its first ever splash carnival in mid-2023.
"Fellow explorers should look forward to experiencing the up-and-coming new themed room that will be joining the current offerings of Pirate, Kingdom, Adventure and NinjaGo in the first quarter of 2023.
The resort will bring an immersive cinematic experience with a bew 4D movie that will only be available at the Lego Studio in the third quarter next year.
"The investments and enhancements align with our strategic priorities to draw new and repeat visitors from donestic and international tourists to Legoland Malaysia Resort," said Lim.
To ensure optimum safety at the resort, he said the management still maintained most of the measures that were implemented during the pandemic such as the frequency of sanitisation within the compound and cashless payments.
Lim said the company was committed to working closely with the Ministry of Tourism to transform Malaysia into top destination of choice in the region by 2024.
Malaysia is expected to attract between 4.5 million and 5.0 million international tourists this year.
"Over the past decade, Legoland Malaysia Resort has worked closely with key government agencies to ensure that Malaysia continues to be an attractive destination choice for international travelers.
"Legoland sets Malaysia apart from other destinations by ensuring that all our activities are meticulously curated based on the foundational strength of our Lego DNA that nurtures creativity through play," he added.
