Widad Business Group awards RM40 million contract to Widad Builders for The Langkasuka project

KUALA LUMPUR: Widad Business Group (WBG), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Langkasuka Land Sdn Bhd (LLSB), has awarded a letter of award to Widad Builders Sdn Bhd (WBSB), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Widad Group Bhd (WGB), for earthworks and construction works for The Langkasuka for RM40 million.

The contract awarded by LLSB to WBSB was offered on September 9, 2022 and subsequently accepted by the latter on September 12, 2022.

This contract is part of Phase 1, with a gross development value of RM4.45 billion, for the master development plan of The Langkasuka.

The contract consists of site clearance and earthworks, retaining walls, environmental protection, and any associated work that is crucial for completing The Langkasuka.

The project will commence on September, 22 2022 and take 10 months, with an expected completion date of July 22, 2023.

WBG founder and group executive chairman Tan Sri Datuk Ikmal Opat Abdullah said The Langkasuka is one of the biggest projects by WBG, and it is of utmost priority to identify the right contractor to undertake this project.

"This award also signifies our first step in making this project of such magnitude a reality.

"The Langkasuka is a unique project because it is the first of its kind in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. It is expected to reshape Langkawi's tourism landscape as the preferred destination for international and local travellers while pushing its property scene to greater heights.

"Besides enjoying the upcoming benefits of the tourism industry, the project will also bring in added value such as job creation opportunities and boosting the economic activities of Langkawi," he said in a statement today.

The mixed-use development will sprawl across 809.4 hectare of man-made islands and be developed in two phases over 15 years.

The first phase will consist of an international standard and tournament-ready golf course by the sea, lush villas and resort homes with elements of Malay architecture granted with the panoramic view of a golf course and the majestic Langkawi sunset.

On the retail side, there will also be a shopping mall named Designers' Brand Mall, a shopping bazaar called The Langkasuka Village, a five-star hotel with a seafront view of the Andaman sea as well as high-end condominiums with a sea frontage view.
