MEDIDATA Sdn Bhd will be setting up clinics and healthcare centres as part of its expansion plan for next year, said senior executive director Rizal Nordin.
He said in the longer term, the company would expand into the medical tourism industry as well as venture into the food and beverage and hospitality lodging businesses.
"We foresee very exciting prospects next year for us. We are in the planning phase to open private clinics and healthcare centres. We have already acquired a location and are eyeing more for future expansions.
"We are in the midst of recruiting doctors and nurses and will be executing this project soon. This investment follows the seriousness in our effort to make early screening of breast abnormalities more accessible," he told the New Straits Times.
Established in 1977, Medidata's core business is in the marketing and trading of pharmaceuticals and medical products, including bandages such as synthetic orthopaedic casting tapes.
Medidata is among the participants at the upcoming Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) that will be held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from Oct 6 to Oct 9.
Continuing from the resounding success of the inaugural Selangor International Expo (Medic) 2021, this exclusive industry exhibition will bring together industry-leading players and experts under one unique platform.
Other than the Medic expo, there are another five expositions that will be held during SIBS.
They are Selangor International Expo (F&B) 2022, Selangor Industrial Park (Spark) 2022, Selangor Asean Business Conference (SABC) 2022, Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC) 2022 and Selangor R&D and Innovation (SRIE) Expo 2022.
This exhibition will bring together the leading experts and industry players from the diagnostic, healthcare, pharmaceutical, hospital and rehabilitation equipment supplies industries to share, promote and showcase the latest and greatest in the fields of medicine, life sciences and biotechnology, medical and healthcare that Selangor has to offer.
Besides its mission to increase awareness of early screening of breast abnormalities, Medidata will be showcasing the Braster Pro, the newest device under its portfolio that is used to screen for breast abnormalities.
"Our main focus during the summit is to increase the awareness on early screening of breast abnormalities, which also coincides with the breast cancer awareness month.
"Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in the world. It is also a burden to the healthcare system and the sooner any abnormalities related to cancer is be found, the sooner treatment can be offered to the patient.
"For us, it is important to make that screening accessible to the public. We see it (SIBS) as an opportunity for us to meet people and form collaborations with other parties.
"We see the Braster Pro not as a replacement for mammogram and ultrasound screenings but rather something that will complement them," he added.
