PUTRAJAYA: Iran is prepared to share its experience and expertise with Malaysia in the field of agricultural research and development as well as the latest technology in crop irrigation and water management systems.
This was among the essence of the discussion between Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Mohamad Sabu and Iranian ambassador to Malaysia Ali Asghar Mohammadi during a meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) here on Jan 10.
MAFS said in a statement today that the meeting was held to enhance bilateral cooperation in agriculture, especially in the field of research and development.
It added that a cooperation agreement is expected to be signed between the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) and the Tehran-based Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organisation (AREEO) soon.
MAFS said Iran also hoped to tap into Malaysia's expertise and knowledge in the field of aquaculture to develop the aquaculture sector in Iran.
"Both countries are also ready to strengthen bilateral trade in the field of agriculture in line with the need to ensure sustainable and continuous food sources," the statement said.
