KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) has formed collaboration with ZTE Malaysia Corp Sdn Bhd to build a hybrid cloud 5G core network for future technologies and applications that can "revolutionise" Malaysia's telecommunication industry.
The partnership will be a catalyst to achieve the aim of bolstering innovation and development of technologies for TM's 5G core project in the next three years.
Part of the project includes bare metal containers, SDN-based architecture, hardware acceleration, CUPS and three-layer decoupling.
In a joint statement, the companies said the collaboration marked an important achievement to pave the way and continued development for 5G technology in the country especially with the novel hybrid cloud 5G core network in the making.
"With the deployment of these sophisticated technologies, customers will gain unparalleled user experience, while also improving the network's.
"This rollout is anticipated to transform and revolutionise the way that data will be processed and transmitted, which could significantly impact the development of future technologies and applications."
Developing a high-capacity network would also address the rising need for network
bandwidth and speed as Malaysia's 5G adoption and ecosystem accelerates, they added.
With the integration of the new technology, TM said it was able to provide seamless connectivity, increase network performance, and enhance ability to serve different industries which includes healthcare, finance, transportation and education.
"Apart from that, the hybrid cloud 5G core network will be beneficial in the development of smart cities, Internet of Things (IoT) and other next-generation technologies that require rapid and low-latency connectivity," it said.
