KUALA LUMPUR: Cable and wire manufacturer Southern Cable Group Bhd's orders have grown from RM578.4 to RM609.3 as at Dec 31 2022 upon receiving a contract addendum from Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).
Southern Cable amended the contract with the national energy provider to supply underground cables and conductors that increased to RM332.1 million from RM293.8 million previously.
Southern Cable has a strong relationship with TNB and the company has been the latter's registered supplier for the last 19 years, providing supply for cables and wires.
In a statement, Southern Cable said the company's current orders in hand would be fulfilled until 2024.
They consist of power cables, wires and other related products and services such as aluminium rods including supply and installation of rectifier systems for 5G network.
Managing director Tung Eng Hai said the company had adopted an optimistic outlook for this year, since projects across various industries for example power, construction and infrastructure had recorded a strong return within activity levels.
"Additionally, the recently re-tabled Budget 2023, with its focus on high impact projects, will contribute to further growth in demand for cables and wires.
"The contract addendum by TNB bolsters our orders in hand for the year and attests to the improving market conditions.
"Furthermore, we are pursuing more business as tender flows for new projects have resumed in strength, thus supporting a positive outlook going forward," he said.
Southern Cable is the registered supplier of cables and wires with TNB, Telekom Malaysia Bhd, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, Sarawak Energy Bhd and Petroliam Nasional Bhd.
Founded in 1993, Southern Cable is principally a manufacturer of cables and wires that are used for power distribution and transmission, communications as well as control and instrumentation applications.
The key supporting activities for the cable and wire manufacturing operations include furnace and casting operations, manufacturing of plastic compounds and wooden cable drums.
